This is a wickedly good Halloween treat which the whole family will love! Quick and easy to make this recipe is a twist of our flapjack favourite and will make the perfect treat for your little pumpkins this spooky season.
- 400g White’s Speedicook Oats
- 200g Butter
- 50g Brown Sugar
- 3 tbsp Golden Syrup
- 2 tbsp black Treacle (if you don’t have this you can sub in more golden syrup here!)
- 1 tsp Cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp Nutmeg
- 3 Apples
- 100ml Toffee/Caramel sauce
For decoration, edible googly eyes (if you can’t find, I used white chocolate buttons with a dot of food colouring, also works well!)
Preheat your oven to 190c, grease and line a 9” square tin
Peel, core and chop your apples
Cook in a saucepan over low heat to soften for 5 mins (to speed this up you can add a tbsp sugar and a little water!)
In another saucepan, melt the butter, sugar, golden syrup and treacle until combined
Take off the heat and mix in your oats and spices
Spread half of the oats mixture into the tin and push down to completely cover (use the back of a spoon to make sure it’s compact!)
Spread the apple mixture on top
Follow with the other half of the oats mixture, again spreading evenly and as compactly as possible
Bake for 20-25 mins (will depend on your oven, keep an eye towards the end to make sure they don’t start to burn!)
Allow to cool then drizzle over your toffee sauce, cut into bars and finish with your googly eyes
Enjoy!
